This essay, based on a short story from the beginning of the 14th century, investigates the convergence of genres in El cuento muy fermoso del enperador Otas de Roma that derives from the French chanson Florence de Rome from the beginning of the 13th century. The text found in the Escorial manuscript h-I-13 as well as the other works from this anthology have some similarities with the hagiographic models. But, taking in consideration the characters traits and the general structure of this short story, we should rather consider it as a chivalric romance that incorporates religious elements to its highly ideological and moral content.
